About This Site
I wish I was as timeless as the music I listen to. Yes, the album covers look out of date and even some of the musical styles seem archaic, but much of that great music we grew up with remains timeless. In fact, thanks to modern technology much of that music has gotten better with age. And finding your favorite music is only a few keystrokes away. Free oldies music is continuously available on the internet.
This is not a nostalgia website. No doubt, there will be some things that you find here that bring back some memories. Actually…this site is about today and how this music we call “oldies” remains relevant for this time in history.
If you don’t believe our music is timeless then take a look at how it is still being used in contemporary entertainment. Oldies standards are used to showcase the aspiring artists on American Idol and other popular entertainment shows. Countless motion pictures and TV series use classic oldies to add expression, excitement, and emotion to their stories. Also common is the use of oldies in commercials. And then there is the phenomenon known as cover songs. New artists record new versions of old songs and some of them sound amazingly close to…the original.
I remember the first time I saw the Buddy Holly Story. It was a great movie. More importantly, it helped me gain a greater appreciation for the artist and his music. The same kind of thing happened to me when I watched the movies Ray (Ray Charles) and La Bamba (Richie Valens). In the same way, my hope is that what you find hear will help you expand your listening experience. And as you get to know these artists better that it will be like catching up with old friends and even getting to know them better than before.
When we talk about oldies we are referring to the music of the Baby Boomer generation and typically that music comes from about 1959 to 1973. Here, however, we will show how the music of the generation is linked to the music before and after the oldies era. In other words, anything is fair game.
Your thoughts and comments are always appreciated…and wanted. You may know something about the artists or songs discussed here that would add even more meaning to the stories. So please share your knowledge with us.
We are just getting started so there is much to be added to this site. So come back often and share Super Oldies Radio with your friends. We also invite you to listen to our internet oldies radio station, Golden Hits Radio. It’s free…and we’re always on the air.
